World Music Drumming is an innovative idea that has shown outstanding success engaging participants in hand drumming traditions combined with singing, moving, playing other instruments, and creating.

The purpose of World Music Drumming is not to turn participants into percussionists... Rather it is to teach that drums and making music can be fun – especially in groups!

World Music Drumming brings you the enjoyment and excitement of music participation while building important life-skills such as communication, listening, cooperative teamwork, discipline and respect for others.

More Details

The Harper School curriculum for World Music Drumming will explain about the “groove” and “pulse” of music. You will explore different styles and sounds of drumming from around the world and you will learn techniques for getting different tones from the drums. You will feel the healing properties of music as it relates to percussion and you will experience the joy of playing in a drum circle. As the classes progress, other percussion instruments will be added.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
